Prigorodny war lange ein friedlicher Erholungsort für die Einwohner von Tselinograd, eine kleine Stadt etwa 20km entfernt. 1998 wurde aus Tselinograd Astana, dann Nur-Sultan, die extravagante Hauptstadt Kasachstans und der Urlaubsort Prigorodny wurde zum Vorort.
