“Kazakhstan at a turning point” – Online Discussion

What do the recent events mean for the people living in Kazakhstan and how can they be put into context? In our online discussion this Thursday 13 January at 19:00 CET we will be exploring what has happened in Kazakhstan since the first protests at the very beginning of the year and what consequences these events will have on the future of the country. We are looking forward to our guests: Aliya Tskhay is a Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews with a focus on Eurasia. Her research interests lie on Central Asian politics, energy security, identity issues and nation-building. She holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and Affairs from the University of St. Andrews. Arailym Wödl is a project manager at Accenture and an activist living in Germany. She holds a Master Degree in Peace Research from the University of Tübingen and is member of several peace organisations in Germany and New Zealand. She organised a demonstration in Stuttgart in response to the events in Kazakhstan. Dina Nurpeissova is a musician from Almaty and based in Berlin. She organized the first demonstration in Berlin in response to the events in Kazakhstan. The online discussion will take place via Zoom. The event will take place in English, with a possibility to ask questions in German.
