A railway bridge crosses the river Vakhsh (Tajik: wild) in the city of Sarband in Tajikistan’s Khatlon region. The city was established in the 1950s for the workers of the nearby hydroelectric powerplant. Almost Tajikistan’s entire electricity production is situated in cascades of hydro power dams on the river Vakhsh.
