Singing dune

This dune, more than one hundred metres high, was formed from sand carried by the river Ili in the Altyn-Emel National Park in Kazakhstan. In dry and windy weather, the dune starts to “sing” by emitting a deep sound. Many legends surround this place. Credit: Hubert-Félix Delattre (France) Find all of our photos of the day here.
