Harvesting cotton

‘You can still hear the birds singing, the gentle sound of water in the stream, and sometimes the happy laughter of the women. They are pickers in the cotton fields. The women walk along the path, carrying cotton on their shoulders, on top of their worries and responsibilities. They are tired, thirsty and sometimes their hands, rough from chores, become sore.’ Harvesting cotton in the Chinoz district, near Tashkent.
