From village to suburb

Prigorodny has long been a peaceful holiday resort for the inhabitants of Tselinograd, a secondary town about 20 kilometres away. In 1998, Tselinograd became Astana, and then Nur-Sultan, the flamboyant capital of Kazakhstan, and Prigorodny went from being a holiday village to a suburb by default.
