Victory square

Victory Square is a much-visited place in Bishkek. Its immense esplanade is dominated by the monument to Victory over Nazi Germany and its emblematic tynduk, the zenithal opening of the yurt, in the shape of a funeral wreath. There are also other sculptures, such as this pitiful pair of combatants. It is estimated that 120,000 people died in the Second World War in Kyrgyzstan, almost 8% of the population.
