The late afternoon sun passes behind the Khan Chatyr shopping center in Astana, illuminating the framework of this original building. An immense 150-meter-high tent, it was designed by architect Norman Foster at the request of Kazakhstan’s president, Nazarbayev. The tent’s walls are made of a special flexible material, allowing transparency while protecting the building from temperature variations.
