The fertile valley

A mother and daughter cross a small bridge near Langhar, in the Wakhan Corridor. In stark contrast to the arid Pamir and Hindu Kush mountains, the Panj River transforms this hostile territory, on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, into a long, fertile valley. (Gorno-Badakhshan, Tajikistan)
