In Kyrgyzstan, Mambeth, a young shepherd, watches the herds graze in the distance. His yurt camp is ideally located above Lake Song-Köl on good grassland. Lake Song-Köl lies at an altitude of 3,000 metres in the Tian Shan massif to the north-west of Naryn. It is considered to be one of the country’s largest reservoirs of natural freshwater. Nomads enjoy the area around the lake from June to September during the summer months, while the lake is frozen over for half the year !
