Great Patriotic War

The term “Great Patriotic War” is used in Soviet and Russian historiography, as well as in the history of certain post-Soviet republics, to refer to the period between June 22, 1941, and May 9, 1945, during World War II. This period is marked by the German army’s invasion of the Soviet Union, their erstwhile ally in the war against Poland.
