It marks the Olympic Stadium built for the<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/novastan.org\/fr\/turkmenistan\/turkmenistan-les-jeux-asiatiques-en-salle-comme-theatre-de-communication\/\"> 2017 Asian Games<\/a><\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2013, Ashgabat was entered into the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guinnessworldrecords.com\/world-records\/highest-density-of-white-marble-clad-buildings\">Guinness Book of Records<\/a><\/strong> as the city with the largest number of white marble buildings in the world, totalling 543 structures with a combined surface area of 4,514 million square metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the result of the vision of its two successive presidents, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saparmurat_Niyazov\">Saparmurat Niyazov<\/a><\/strong> (who died in 2006) and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gurbanguly_Berdimuhamedow\">Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedo<\/a>w.<\/strong> The latter also wrote a book entitled \u2018Ashgabat, the White City\u2019 to mark the 140th anniversary of the city\u2019s founding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Credit: Cornelia Steinigen<\/strong> (Germany)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p>Find <a style=\"color: #f57d20; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/novastan.org\/en\/tag\/photo-of-the-day\/\">all of our photos of the day<\/a>.
