A break for horses by the Yellow Lake, Saryköl, in the Naryn Region, Kyrgyzstan. The Kyrgyz people rely heavily on horses in their daily lives: they ferment mare’s milk to make kumis and use their herds to travel across mountain slopes. Horses are also used in tourism to carry hikers’ belongings.

Part of the Chimtarga mountain range in northern Tajikistan, Maria Peak rises to a modest 4,790 metres. It is usually admired from afar during a trek in the Fann mountains, between Artuch and Alaudin, whether you are at deep in the valleys or climbing the more imposing peaks.

A rainbow stretches over the mountains of the Köl-Suu yurt camp in Kyrgyzstan. In many cultures, the rainbow is interpreted as a bridge between two dimensions, terrestrial and celestial, allowing bodies or spirits to pass through.
